Which IDs are stable across searches, and which are per request?

Baselayer returns two kinds of identifiers, and it helps to know which is which when you store results.

Stable identifiers name a thing in the world and stay the same every time you see it:

  • Business ID: one per business, persists across searches. If two records are later found to be the same business and merged, the old ID redirects permanently to the surviving one.

  • Registration ID: one per Secretary of State filing. It is derived from the filing itself, so the same filing has the same ID on every search and every refresh. Match on it to update a filing rather than duplicate it.

  • Address ID: one per distinct validated address. Two businesses at the same address share the same address ID.

  • Person ID: one per person record you create.

Per-request identifiers name a single call and are new every time: search IDs, lien search IDs, docket search IDs, web presence request IDs, and industry prediction request IDs. Store them to correlate webhooks and to re-fetch a result, not as the identity of a business.
