How often does the IRS TIN matching service go down?

Outages are infrequent and usually short. Historically they add up to a small number of hours per quarter, and they are more likely during peak filing periods such as April when IRS systems are under heavier load.

When the IRS is unavailable, your search still completes; only the TIN result is delayed and filled in automatically once the service recovers.
