Does Pre.Fill increase fraud risk?
Last updated: October 9, 2026
No, Pre.Fill only surfaces public information: the legal entity name, registered address, and officers already filed with a Secretary of State. It never prefills SSNs, dates of birth, or any other sensitive consumer data. Everything it shows can be found on a state website, so it does not give a fraudster a capability they did not already have.
What Pre.Fill does change is who has to do the typing. Legitimate applicants often misspell their own legal entity name, use a trade name, or enter a mailing address instead of the registered one, and every one of those causes a name or address mismatch that lands in manual review. Prefilling from the registration removes those self-inflicted mismatches.
The real security gates sit around Pre.Fill, not inside it:
Proving the person: phone or email verification, device signals, and IP checks before suggestions are shown.
Linking the person to the business: the officer name match, the TIN check, and your existing document or bank verification.
Your velocity and consortium checks, which run the same way whether the entity name was typed or prefilled.
With those in place, customers see fewer mismatch-driven manual reviews and higher completion without a change in their fraud outcomes.
