How do I test DMF, SCRA, and MLA in sandbox?

All three checks work in sandbox with your sandbox API key. No real records are queried and nothing is billed.

SCRA and MLA. Sandbox returns a fixed result based on the SSN you submit, with any name and date of birth:

• 900000001: covered

• 900000002: not covered (SCRA returns no match, MLA returns not covered)

• 900000003: covered, with a DMDC certificate returned when certificate is true

• 900000004: covered, but the certificate is unavailable, for testing that path

• 900000005: SCRA only, a person who left active duty within the prior 367 days

Any other SSN returns the default not-covered response.

DMF. Sandbox DMF searches always complete with zero matches. Use them to confirm the request, response shape, and DMFSearch.completed webhook are wired correctly. There is no sandbox case that returns a death record.

Positive-hit testing in production. SCRA and MLA hits require a real service member’s PII, which we cannot supply. Customers test positive cases in their own environment with their own records. For DMF, we can provide a small set of real records for deceased individuals on request, since those are no longer protected as PII.
