What information is provided as part of the Litigation & Bankruptcy search?

Last updated: September 15, 2026

Baselayer connects to 2,500+ courts for litigation and bankruptcy filings, covering federal, state, and local courts. Each result carries a match confidence so you can tell how strongly the case is tied to the searched business or person.

A search returns up to the 50 most recent records found. There is no fixed date cutoff, but recent cases are prioritized. Each result includes a date_filed field so you can filter by time frame on your end.

Litigation / bankruptcy fields include:

  • Match confidence

  • Docket number and court

  • State where the court is located (US for federal courts)

  • Case type and title

  • Parties and counsel

  • Filing and closed dates

  • Open / closed status

  • Bankruptcy chapter (7, 9, 11, 12, 13, or 15), for bankruptcy cases

  • Optional docket entries and documents

Bankruptcy cases are flagged with is_bankruptcy=TRUE in the API and appear under the Bankruptcies tab in the console, so you can separate them from other litigation without inspecting the case type.
