How do I verify a TIN without running a full business search?
Last updated: September 14, 2026
Use the TIN verification endpoint. It runs the same IRS check as a business search without the business matching, KYB rating, or other data, so it is the right tool when you only need to confirm that a TIN belongs to a name.
Submit POST /tin_verifications with the business name, the TIN, and the business address. The response is returned synchronously and carries the same two fields you see on a business search: tin_matched (true or false) and tin_match_type (EIN or SSN). You can fetch a verification later by ID or list all of your requests.
Three webhook events cover the lifecycle:
TINVerification.submittedTINVerification.completedTINVerification.failed
If the IRS service is unavailable when you submit, the response comes back with tin_matched set to null and a warning that IRS validation is unavailable. The request is then retried automatically, and the completed event fires once the IRS responds.
