What officer and ownership data does Baselayer provide?

Last updated: September 26, 2026

Every business search returns the people associated with the business in business_officers. Each officer record has:

  • Name

  • Titles: the roles filed with the state, such as manager, director, president, or organizer.

  • States: every state where that person appears on a registration for the business.

  • Sources: where the record came from. SOS means Secretary of State filings. Online means the person was found through online sources, which is included only when you order the Enhanced add-on.

Officers are aggregated across all of the business’s registrations, so a business registered in several states returns one combined list with the states each person appears in. This is returned for every business, whether or not you submit any officer names.

Separately, each registration carries its own registered_agent, which is the party designated to receive legal notices. Registered agents are not officers, though some states file the organizer or agent with an officer title, in which case they appear in both places.

If you already know who the owners or officers are, submit them in officer_names on the search. We return how closely they match the filed officers and registered agent, and screen them against watchlists.
