Can Baselayer provide a business's EIN if it wasn't submitted?

No provider can reliably supply an EIN that was not submitted, and that includes Baselayer. There is no government database that lists every business alongside its EIN, so this is an industry-wide constraint rather than a gap in our data.

Why it is not available:

• No federal or state source publishes a complete list of EINs paired to businesses. Florida is one of the few states that includes EINs in its registration data, which covers a small fraction of US businesses.

• Some providers have accumulated EINs over time from other sources. Coverage is partial and accuracy varies, so we do not rely on it.

What we do instead is verify the EIN your customer provides. Baselayer is integrated directly with the IRS, which gives near-complete coverage for confirming whether a submitted EIN is associated with a business name. In most onboarding flows the applicant supplies their EIN, so verification rather than lookup is what matters.
