How is the KYB rating determined, and what does each grade mean?

Last updated: June 1, 2026

The KYB rating measures how confident we are in a business's identity — whether it exists, how well it matches, and the quality of the search.

Factors that affect the KYB rating include:

  • Exactness of Name Match

  • Exactness of Address Match

  • TIN/EIN Match (if provided)

  • Secretary of State status

Grade bands:

  • A: 90–100

  • B: 80–89

  • C: 60–79

  • F: below 60

What lowers a rating: a mismatched EIN, a partial / state-only address match, or an inactive or unknown Secretary of State registration.
