Can Baselayer identify whether a business website is legitimate?
Last updated: September 15, 2026
Website analysis is designed to separate a real, operating business website from a placeholder, an abandoned domain, or a site set up to look legitimate. The signals it evaluates:
Domain age. A domain registered days or weeks before the application is a classic fraud indicator.
Build status. Whether the site is active, a coming-soon or template page, or inactive.
SSL certificate validity and whether the domain is parked.
Email deliverability: whether the website’s domain can receive email. A business site whose domain has no mail configured is a signal worth noting.
Contact consistency. Whether the address, phone, and email on the site match what the applicant told you.
Presence signals. Social profiles and review listings linked to the business, and the site’s depth and breadth.
