How do I set up Auto.Complete?

Last updated: October 9, 2026

Auto.Complete adds a business typeahead to your onboarding form: as the applicant types their company name, they pick their business from official Secretary of State records, and you run KYB on exactly that business.

How it works.

  1. Your backend opens a short-lived session with your API key (POST /autocomplete/sessions), so the key never reaches the browser.

  2. As the applicant types, the browser requests suggestions (GET /autocomplete/businesses) using that session.

  3. Each suggestion carries a token that identifies exactly that business.

  4. Pass the token as business_token on POST /searches. The token is valid for 15 minutes and only for your organization.

Setup. The fastest route is the Baselayer SDK, @baselayer-sdk/autocomplete. It opens and refreshes sessions for you, includes a ready-made React component you can restyle, and has a server helper that keeps your API key on your backend. Installation, examples and a live demo are at sdk.baselayer.com.

Access. Auto.Complete is enabled per organization. Contact your Baselayer representative to turn it on.

Still using GET /autocomplete? The original endpoint was retired on September 25, 2026. See the migration notice.
