How do I test lien filing in sandbox?

Last updated: September 26, 2026

You do not need real test cases. In sandbox, a submitted filing walks through the lifecycle automatically instead of waiting on our filing team, so you can exercise your status handling and webhooks end to end.

Submit a filing with your sandbox API key exactly as you would in production. After you call POST /lien_submissions/{filing_id}/submit, the filing moves from Requested to In Review, Submitted, and Filed on its own, with a short delay between each step and a LienFiling.updated webhook at every transition. On Filed, the filing number, filing date, and lapse date are populated with synthetic values.

To force the other paths, put one of these tokens anywhere in the filing name (case and punctuation are ignored):

  • SANDBOX_NEEDS_ATTENTION: goes to In Review, then stops at Needs Attention so you can test the edit-and-resubmit flow.

  • SANDBOX_STATIC: stays at Requested and never progresses.

The complete list of sandbox cases is available here.

UCC-3 amendments behave the same way. Nothing is sent to any state and nothing is billed.
